BIPOC and NEEDS-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS for SUMMER WORKSHOPS
BIPOC SCHOLARSHIPS
These merit-based scholarships are to support the professional development for BIPOC* cartoonists. CCS is offering 1 full scholarship for each of its summer cartooning workshops! Scholarship recipients for our in-person workshops will also receive a $300 stipend to help offset travel and accommodation costs.
Our workshops are for both beginners and advanced artists and cover topics from tools and techniques to writing and drawing for both comics and graphic novels. To be considered for this scholarship, prospective workshop participants should apply by submitting a short written statement on how this workshop will aid their development as a visual storyteller, and one or two pieces of their work (sketches, published work, website, etc). A committee of faculty and staff will review and make the selections.
The deadline to apply was March 25, 2022.
A selection will be made by April 4, 2022, and those selected will be notified then. We will also let applicants know if they have not been chosen at that time.
If you are selected for the scholarship and have already registered for that workshop, we will refund you! One scholarship will be awarded per workshop. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions [email protected]
* BIPOC stands for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. It is not a perfect term. If you are wondering if this term applies to you, reading about the history of the term, or listening to some of the debate surrounding the term may be helpful.
NEEDS-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS
Needs-based scholarships are available to help cover the cost of the workshop tuition through The Center for Cartoon Studies.
There are currently two needs-based scholarships:
One is a general scholarship (up to 40%), which is dependent on annual household income. This is on a first-come-first-served basis; funds are allocated per class.
Second is an Upper Valley–specific scholarship for those located in the vicinity of the school.
In either case, to apply you just need to email the amount of your adjusted gross income for the previous year (i.e the amount listed on your 2021 tax return for the 2022 summer workshops) to Dave Lloyd, [email protected]. Copies or tax returns are not necessary.
CCS Students and Alumni Discounts
Discounts are available to The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) students and alumni.
